# Keyboard Shortcuts

Most of the admin app can be driven from the keyboard: jump between sections, move through lists and records, run actions on the item in front of you, and talk to Buddy without reaching for the mouse.

On Windows and Linux, read <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> wherever this page shows <kbd>⌘</kbd>, and <kbd>Alt</kbd> for <kbd>⌥</kbd>. The admin app shows the right keys for your system.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The shortcut help sheet, the command menu, the go-to shortcuts, and <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>,</kbd> for settings are in **Preview** and rolling out gradually. Everything else on this page works for everyone, as long as your project has the feature it belongs to: <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>B</kbd> needs Buddy (on Studio pages it explains that Buddy isn't available there), and <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>⌥</kbd>+<kbd>N</kbd> needs Studio.

## See every shortcut

Press <kbd>?</kbd> anywhere in the admin app, or open your user menu and choose **Keyboard Shortcuts**. A sheet opens on the right with the shortcuts grouped by area - General, Navigation, Lists, Records, Buddy, and so on.

The sheet lists what works on the page you're on, so it changes as you move around: the Editor group only appears while a text editor is open, for example. Type in the search field to find a shortcut by name or key, or use **Show all shortcuts** to see the ones that apply elsewhere too.

## Command menu

Press <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>K</kbd> to open the command menu. Start typing to find what you want to do or where you want to go:

* **Recently visited** - the blocks, listings, storages, and other items you opened last. Shown until you start typing.
* **On this page** and **Selected** - actions for the page you're on and the item you've selected, such as rename, duplicate, or open the API Playground.
* **Navigate** and **Global actions** - every section of the admin app, plus actions that work anywhere, like toggling Buddy.
* **Search results** - blocks, listings, pages, trees, storages, integrations, and Studio jobs in your project that match what you typed.

Every action in the command menu that has a shortcut shows it next to its name, so the menu doubles as a way to learn them.

## Anywhere in the admin app

| Shortcut | What it does |
| - | - |
| <kbd>?</kbd> | Show keyboard shortcuts |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>K</kbd> | Open the command menu |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>B</kbd> | Open or close [Buddy](https://docs.frontic.com/essentials/buddy.md) |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>I</kbd> | Open or close notifications |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>J</kbd> | Show or hide the main menu |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>,</kbd> | Go to settings |
| <kbd>o</kbd> then <kbd>p</kbd> | Switch project (when you have more than one project or team) |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>⌥</kbd>+<kbd>N</kbd> | Create a [Studio](https://docs.frontic.com/studio/frontic-studio.md) job |
| <kbd>t</kbd> / <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>T</kbd> | Next / previous tab on pages with tabs |

## Go to a section

Press <kbd>g</kbd>, then the letter for the section. Press the second key right after the first; <kbd>Esc</kbd> in between cancels.

| Shortcut | Goes to |
| - | - |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>h</kbd> | Home |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>b</kbd> | Detail Blocks |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>l</kbd> | Search Listings |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>p</kbd> | Page URLs |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>t</kbd> | Menu Trees |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>s</kbd> | Data Storages |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>i</kbd> | Integrations |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>e</kbd> | [Experience Designer](https://docs.frontic.com/designer/overview.md) |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>j</kbd> | Studio jobs |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>c</kbd> | [Context Base](https://docs.frontic.com/context-base/overview.md) |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>r</kbd> | [Release Control](https://docs.frontic.com/releases/overview.md) |

## Lists and items

These work on list pages such as Detail Blocks, Search Listings, Data Storages, and Integrations, and on the item you've focused in the list.

| Shortcut | What it does |
| - | - |
| <kbd>c</kbd> | Create a new item |
| <kbd>/</kbd> | Jump to the search or filter field, on pages that have one |
| <kbd>↑</kbd> <kbd>↓</kbd> or <kbd>k</kbd> <kbd>j</kbd> | Move up and down the list |
| <kbd>Enter</kbd> | Open the focused item |
| <kbd>Space</kbd> | Open the focused item's menu |
| <kbd>n</kbd> / <kbd>p</kbd> | Next / previous page |
| <kbd>r</kbd> | Rename |
| <kbd>d</kbd> | Duplicate |
| <kbd>e</kbd> | Edit |
| <kbd>s</kbd> | Toggle status |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>.</kbd> | Copy the ID |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>.</kbd> | Copy the URL |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Backspace</kbd> | Delete |

Not every list offers every action. If an item can't be renamed or deleted, the shortcut does nothing; the help sheet shows what applies.

## Record browser

When you browse the records of a Data Storage or a Data Feed:

| Shortcut | What it does |
| - | - |
| <kbd>↑</kbd> <kbd>↓</kbd> or <kbd>k</kbd> <kbd>j</kbd> | Move between records, or between fields in the detail pane |
| <kbd>→</kbd> or <kbd>Tab</kbd> | Move into the record's detail pane |
| <kbd>←</kbd> | Move back to the record list |
| <kbd>n</kbd> / <kbd>p</kbd> | Next / previous page |
| <kbd>f</kbd> | Add a filter |
| <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>F</kbd> | Remove the last filter |
| <kbd>⌥</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>F</kbd> | Clear all filters |
| <kbd>m</kbd> | Switch the detail pane between fields and JSON |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>C</kbd> | Copy the record as JSON, or the focused field with its key |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>C</kbd> | Copy only the focused field's value |
| <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>.</kbd> | Copy the record's key in the list, or the focused field's name in the detail pane |

## Buddy and chat

The same keys work in Buddy and in the chat inputs of Studio and the Experience Designer. The prompt for a new Studio job is the exception: it sends with <kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Enter</kbd>, and <kbd>Enter</kbd> starts a new line.

| Shortcut | What it does |
| - | - |
| <kbd>Enter</kbd> | Send your message, or pick the highlighted slash command |
| <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>Enter</kbd> | Start a new line |
| <kbd>Tab</kbd> | Move to the next slash command, or accept the suggested prompt |
| <kbd>Esc</kbd> | Stop the current reply, or leave the input. In Buddy, press it again to close Buddy. |

## What Esc does

<kbd>Esc</kbd> always closes the closest thing first. Each press steps out one level: a dialog, then whatever you're editing, then your selection, the search or filter field, and the detail pane. When nothing is left open, <kbd>Esc</kbd> takes you back to the list the current page belongs to - from a Detail Block to the Detail Blocks list, for example.
